The ford mustang is a very popular car by Ford Motor Company. It started its journey on 9th March 1964, from the city of Michigan. It was first seen by the public at New York World’s fair on 17th April 1964. Within a year of its launching 100,000 cars were sold. It has proven to be the most successful car in the Ford stable since ‘Model-A’. From 1964 until today, it can be said that Ford Mustang is one of the best cars to come in the market. Succession of Mustang can be divided into five generations; first generation (1964-1973), second-generation (1974-1978), third-generation (1979-1993), fourth generation (1994-2004), and fifth-generation (2005-present).
First-generation Mustang was a two-seat car, mid-engine roadster, which was later converted into four seat car. It had simple components derived from Ford Falcon. In the later years, it became larger and heavier and was far different from original model. In second-generation, Mustang returned to its original Light-body model due to public demand and also to compete with Japanese and European small model cars. The smaller Mustang-II was launched in October 1973 just before ‘energy crisis’. It proved successful in the sale increased to almost 418000 cars. In the third generation interiors were redesigned and the car has a large trunk and larger engine bay. There was major face-lifting in 1987. In fourth generation, there was major redesigning and the car was named car of the year by Trend magazine. In 2004, S-197 was introduced at the North American International auto show. It had a retro-fusion design. The engine has remained the same that is V6, and V8.
